Yes, I said that right. Not Sweden, Swedish. Swedish Hospital. I wish we would've gone to Sweden for three nights but unfortunately that was not the case. Ailee got a fever last Monday after sleeping the entire day. Her fever was 102 at home. So my pediatricians office told us to go to the ER. When we got to the hospital her temperature was 100.8. Since she was acting so lethargic they were pretty worried and thought that it might be a bacterial disease like meningitis. The ER was the worst part of the whole thing. They decided to test her blood, urine and spinal fluid. They had a hard time placing the IV and poked her like 12 times. And they gave her a spinal but couldn't get what they needed. So basically they just tortured her for no reason.
Once they got the IV in and sent her blood and stuff to the lab they admitted us and got Ailee started on some antibiotics in case it was bacterial. They said we would have to stay there at least 48 hours cause it would take that long for the tests to come back, and they wanted to give her the antibiotics for that long.
I stayed in the hospital with her pretty much the whole time since I'm nursing her. Kevin would come and give me a break from time to time. And some of our awesome friends watched Calum from time to time, so Kevin could come hang out with us. Calum didn't mind partying with them :)
I like to think he missed us though. When he came to the hospital once he kept asking where Ailee was. I told him she was in the PICU. He was really sad he couldn't see her, so we snuck him in to peek at her.
Ailee seemed to be doing a lot better the morning after we went into the ER, but we still had to wait around, and that was really hard. It was no fun worrying about our sweet girl and wondering what was wrong with her. It was also really hard to see her all hooked up to monitors and IV's and not being able to take her more than five feet from her crib.
On the second night she pulled her IV out of her head so they had to place it again. Luckily they got it in there pretty quick.
The plus side of this was I got to spend a lot of snuggle time with this cute girl.
They didn't ever find out what was wrong, and guessed that it was most likely just a virus, like a flu or cold bug and that her body was just fighting it off on her own.
She started being more herself and her white blood count went back up, so after the 48 hours they let us go home. All she had to show for her three days in the hospital was a Dora BandAid :)
We got home and life went back to normal. Other than me now being super paranoid about germs. Kevin and Calum went and got us free Krispy Kreme's by dressing up like pirates :)
Kevin ripped off his toe nail. Calum thought it was jelly on his toe.
Calum was empathetic.
Calum pounded his doughnut, and made a good mess in the process.
And Ailee had a sweet blow out.
Yep life in the Foulger house pretty much went back to normal. Haha. Sad we had to spend three whole nights in Swedish Hospital. Our bill will probably be as much as if we took a trip to Sweden :) But we are glad we got everything checked out and that she is seeming back to normal. It was so sad that she had to go through all of this for a little fever. We just love her tons and hate seeing her sick or hurt. So glad we are all back under the same roof. Hopefully it will be a while before we have to make another trip to the hospital.
