On Top of the World!!

Happy Tuesday everybody. I am happy to inform you all that we had a splendid week :) It was 7/11 so we partook in some free Slurpee action. Calum decided to dip his toothbrush in the toilet then suck the water off; who knows how many dips he made before I found him. Yuck! We have new callings in church, I'm in the Young Womens working with the Beehives and Kevin is a Sunday school teacher for the 16-17 year olds. We are so excited to get to work with the youth.
We also went to the zoo, zoo, zoo, with the kangaroo, roo, roo, and the lions too, too, too, we went to the zoo, zoo, zoo! Ok so we actually went with some friends :) He was a little tired but he still got to see, the elephants, the lions, and the chimpanzees, the gatas, cicadas, mice, lice, geese, moose. If your wondering what all my rhyming is about...

Anyway, we had fun checking out all the animals. When we were done we zipped over to my friend Michelle's house for some swimming. Calum slept in the car on the way over so he was ready to be a wild man at the pool. He is so brave in the zero entry pool. He was sticking his face underwater and running all over. He even took a dive or two that didn't even phase him. He is definitely my son. He'll be a regular old tadpole in no time :)

All the fun mommies. Minus me the photographer!

We went up camping for a night. We kind of got a late start but still had fun around the campfire. Calum slept like a champ. I can't say the same for me. Calum thought the tent was the funnest thing ever. It made it hard to put up and take down cause he just wanted to run around inside it and jump on the walls.

La Familia Huish came with us :) Calum was so excited to have buddies to run around with.

We got to test out Kevin's birthday present. He got a camp stove. It was awesome. I'm trying to convince Kevin to set it up in our house because it works way better than our stove.

We also finally broke in our sweet Cabela's chairs. We've had them for about two years and had never used them, we didn't know what we were missing.

Calum has reverted to his put everything in his mouth phase. Camping with him was ridiculous. I was constantly pulling rocks, twigs, and dirt out of his mouth! Little Mountain Man.

Helping dad pack up. What a cutie!

We were going to go on a nearby hike but decided instead to make the trek up to Mt. Evans. Mt Evans is one of Colorado's infamous fourteeners (Mountains above 14,000 ft). But what is cool about Mt Evans is you don't have to hike your butt off to get to the summit. There is a paved road that takes you within a few hundred yards of the summit.

It's the highest road in North America, and by my calculations one of the sketchiest. Haha. There were almost no guard rails all 28 miles up, it's pretty narrow and you just keep climbing up and up! This is my sweet pic of Kevin's dream car from the cliffs above. It took me awhile to muster up the courage to even take this picture. Haha. I was trying not to look down most of the time, it made my palms too sweaty!

The abandoned little cafe at the top.

Silly Calum

Kevin being awesome.

Hiking the short climb to the top.

We made it!

 Checking out the elevation marker.

Such a pretty view even with it being a little hazy.

Lucy and me trying not to fall off the cliff!

The littlest mountain climbers!

As you can see, we were way above the treeline. Definitely the highest place I have ever been. And we could feel it. Kevin and I both had minor headaches and felt a little lightheaded. Calum didn't seem to mind until later when he threw up in the car on the way down. Car sick or Altitude sick who knows?

Calum decided he was a big boy and wanted to walk down the last little bit.

Thanks for the fun weekend Huish's. Got our first fourteener out of the way, we're old pros now. Maybe we'll tackle another one next week :)
